About Our Referral List

    Why This List Exists

Finding a therapist who is both knowledgeable and responsible from a clinical and LGBTQ standpoint and knowledgeable about Orthodox communities can be incredibly difficult. We created this directory to make that search easier.

    What We Screen For

All providers on this list have been screened to ensure they meet our standards:

No Conversion Therapy: Providers affirm they do not practice approaches aimed at changing sexual orientation or gender identity.
LGBTQ Experience: Providers have worked with LGBTQ individuals and understand related mental health needs.
Orthodox Knowledge & Respect: Familiarity with and respect for the Orthodox community through therapeutic work or personal background.
No Agenda Approach: Providers support your own decisions without imposing religious, political, or LGBTQ agendas in either direction. See Our Commitment to You for more.
Strong Clinical Skills: Professionals with solid clinical training and ethical practice standards.

    Our Vetting Process

    We evaluate each therapist through:

    • Credentials review: Verification of degrees, professional standing, and credentials
    • Experience assessment: Confirmation of work with LGBTQ clients and Orthodox communities
    • Values alignment: Written attestations and scenario-based questions about their clinical approach

    What This List Is NOT

We do not fully vet therapists. Being on this list means a provider has met our screening criteria. However:

    • This does NOT mean we endorse their clinical skills or approach
    • This does NOT mean they are the right fit for you personally
    • They have NOT been comprehensively evaluated or supervised by us

Therapy is deeply personal. What works for one person may not work for another. Therapeutic fit depends on personality, communication style, clinical approach, and many other factors that only you can assess.

    How to Use This List

    1
Identify 2-3 Potential Matches: Use our filters to narrow by location, specialty, insurance, etc. Read provider profiles to get a sense of their approach. Consider what's most important to you.
    2
Check Practical Details: Insurance coverage or self-pay rates, location and telehealth availability, current availability for new clients.

Important: For virtual sessions, use the State filter to check the therapist's practice scope and availability in your state.

    3
Request a Consultation: Email providers and ask about a free initial consultation (15-20 min). Most therapists offer these calls, and it's completely okay to ask. Use this time to assess if you feel comfortable with them before committing to a first session.
    4
Trust Your Judgment: You're only committing to one session at a time. It's normal to meet with multiple therapists before finding the right fit. If it's not working after a few sessions, it's okay to try someone else.

    Privacy & Confidentiality

We take your privacy seriously. Our directory requires secure login to protect both your privacy and the privacy of our therapists. We do not sell or share your data, and you can access the directory anonymously if you choose. Learn more about our commitment to transparency.

All therapists on our list are required to maintain strict confidentiality about clients' LGBTQ identities and will not disclose this information to family, rabbis, or community members without explicit permission.
